Thai on-arrival visa fee to Maldives, 18 others back to original

Thailand has revoked its decision to double the on-arrival visa fee taken by the government from tourists visiting the country from 19 foreign countries, including Maldives.

Thailand doubled the fee to 2,000 Baath from September 27.

Thai media, citing the tourism ministry of Thailand, has reported that the government had decided to cut the fee to its original 1,000 Baath for tourists visiting from 19 foreign countries, including Maldives.

According to media reports, the change takes effect this Wednesday.

The decision is a move to encourage arrival of tourists to Thailand – something the economy of the country is heavily dependent on.
