Lawsuit filed by former Deputy Leader of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Alhaan Fahmy over election-related issues within MDP has gone to trial after fail to come to an agreement during dispute resolution.
Alhaan asked for two things in his lawsuit; to establish that the MDP leader’s term in office which began on May 1, 2011 ended on April 30, 2016, and to order for immediate internal poll to elect a leader and deputy leader to the party.
Dispute resolution failed with MDP rejecting Alhaan’s demands.
During the meeting held last Thursday, MDP said it wanted to submit some procedural issues, and the judge ended the meeting after announcing he had decided the case should proceed to trial.
Alhaan reported that he expected the trial to start soon.
