SATA Visitors Choice: Maldives takes 5 out of 7 awards

Maldivian travel and tourism businesses have taken five out of seven Visitors Choice Awards at South Asian Travel Awards (SATA).

The awards were announced during the SATA 2016 Gala Night held at the picturesque Mount Lavinia Hotel in Sri Lanka on Wednesday night.

Maldives won five out of the seven Visitors Choice Awards, while Sri Lanka and India won one apiece.

Maldives won Leading Honeymoon Destination, Leading Beach Destination, Leading Diving Destination, Leading Surfing Destination, and Leading Cruising Destination.

Sri Lanka won the award for Leading Heritage Destination; and India beat both Maldives and Sri Lanka to win Leading MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) Destination.

More than 270 top names were nominated for the awards – which were handed out from 29 categories.

Maldives won 18 awards; while Sri Lanka won 8 awards and India won 3 awards.
