A Maldivian man and his three-year-old child died in a roadside accident which took place in neighboring Sri Lanka on Sunday.
The man has been identified as Hassan Ali, 33, from Babooge in H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi.
A member of Hassan’s family reported to “Sun” that the family received news of the death of Hassan and his child on Sunday afternoon.
“We received the news from my brother’s wife. I talked to my sister-in-law over Viber. I have been unable to contact her after that,” said the family member.
The family member said he did not know which city in Lanka Hassan’s family lived in.
He said it had been two years since Hassan moved with his family to Sri Lanka, after an accident and subsequent damage to his spine made it necessary for him to obtain specialized medical care on a permanent basis.
“Both the doctors my brother went to in Maldives and in India recommended that he needed permanent medical care. That’s why my brother moved with his wife and their child to Sri Lanka and got a job there,” said the family member.
Maldivian embassy in Sri Lanka said that they got to know about the accident from media reports. And were looking into the case.
