The family of the Maldivian woman and her son held captive by an abusive lover in Bangladesh has said that they have had no luck in rescuing them yet.
The family reports that it had been over three weeks since the young woman and her two-year-old son were being held captive in Kishoreganj City, Bangladesh.
“We don’t know where they are. There’s no news,” said the family.
The family said they were working with the Bangladeshi police, but had made no progress yet.
The mother of the woman had alleged the family was not being provided enough support by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives.
However, Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the office had been alerted to the situation by Maldivian embassy in Bangladesh on October 18. And that the office was working with the embassy to resolve the issue.
It also said officials from the office had met with members of the woman’s family to instruct them
on how to proceed.
The young woman got trapped in an abusive relationship after she ran away with her son to Bangladesh to be with her lover after he was reportedly deported from Maldives over a narcotics related case.
