The heirs of lawyer Ahmed Najeeb, who was tied to a chair and brutally murdered, have asked for the death penalty for Ahmed Murrath, 29, and his girlfriend Fathimath Hana, 18, who have confessed to the murder.
Murrath and Hana were present in the room, and no nervousness was observed on their faces as all six of Najeeb’s heirs individually asked for the death penalty..
Najeeb’s daughter Shamha Ahmed Najeeb who lives abroad, and son Jinah Ahmed Najeeb who is currently in a resort, were not present in court today.
Jinah did attend his father’s funeral yesterday.
Death penalty for the murderers was asked for by Ahmed Faisal, Sheela Najeeb, Shifna Ahmed, Neela Ahmed Najeeb, Shamama Ahmed Najeeb, and Jihan Ahmed Najeeb.
“We want death for death,” Sheela Najeeb said at the trial, with tears in her eyes.
The Judge said that an announcement, valid until 10 July, 2012, had been made to find the remaining heirs, and that the verdict on the case will be issued after that date.
