Ameen Faisal charged with terror over President Yameen’s arrest

Former Minister of Defense Force, Ameen Faisal has been charged with terrorism over President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s arrest one-week detention in K. Aarah during former President Mohamed Nasheed’s administration.

Prosecutor General’s Office filed the case with Criminal Court on October 24, and the preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 pm, this Tuesday.

President Yameen - who had then been the Mulah representative of People’s Majlis – was arrested by military officers and taken to Aarah on July 14, 2010.

He was released on July 23.

President Yameen had initially been arrested by police in a suspected case of bribery of members of People’s Majlis to fuel a coup attempt, but was later released under Supreme Court order.

He was detained by military officers and taken to Aarah after his release.

Ameen Faisal has maintained the stance that he had gone nothing illegal during his tenure as Defense Minister.
