Projected State budget for 2017 is scheduled for submission to People’s Majlis next Tuesday.
The budget is the only work that is sent in the agenda for Tuesday, and an amendment to People’s Majlis regulation means the debate needs to start of the day the budget is submitted itself.
General Committee of Majlis announced that each lawmaker will be given 22 minutes of talk-time during the debate; 15 minutes when the budget is opened for debate, and 7 minutes when the budget research committee passes the budget and presents it to the Majlis floor again.
The projected MVR 26 billion budget is MVR 1 billion less than the MVR 27.457 billion State budget for 2016.
Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawwar has commented that the government was working on reducing recurrent expenditure and balancing State income and expenditure.
