Police: Deceased infant’s mother in not under arrest

Police have refuted rumors that they have arrested the mother of the five-month infant who had under State care in Children’s Shelter – “Fiyavathi” in Hulhumale’.

Police refuted the claim, which was run by a local media center on Monday.

Police said the mother of the infant had not been detained by police in relation to any case they were investigating.

“She is not under detention anywhere at the moment,” said the police.

The five-month infant had died on October 17.

Police were made aware the infant was having trouble breathing at 11:14 am, he was dead when taken to Hulhumale’ Hospital on emergency.

Authorities have buried the body of the infant after postmortem.
