INIA officially begins departure area and domestic terminal expansion

Expansion of the domestic terminal of the Ibrahim Nasir international Airport (INIA) has officially started today.

The Project stated after opening the newly expanded domestic departure holding area with increased capacity today.

The expanded area was opened by the Managing Director of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Adhil Moosa.

The expensive titan project of the INIA developed includes a new international terminal with increased capacity, a second runway, a fuel farm along with other developments.

The new domestic departure area opened today used to accommodate 90 passengers before the expansion of 160.

And about 50 seats were added outside the departure holding area along with a spacious security screening area with two machines.

Space was made for this change by moving the Island Aviation lounge on the grounds floor to the first floor.

The Managing Director of MACL, Adhil said that airport operations wrote not be affected by the major development projects at the airport and they would work to improve the services provided at the airport at a good pace.

He said that domestic flight movements are also increasing with the growing number of resorts and airports in the country.

Adhil spoke further saying that when the new international terminal is complete, the current one would converted to the domestic terminal.
