Japan provides 415 mn to develop digital terrestrial broadcasting

Japan has provided MVR 415 million in non-reimbursable financial assist for the project to develop digital terrestrial television broadcasting network in Maldives.

The exchange of notes was signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs this

Thursday morning by Japanese ambassador, Kazumi Endo and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim.

Japanese embassy reports that the purpose of the project was to design digital terrestrial broadcasting in Maldives by using ISDB-T - the technical standard for digital television broadcast used in Japan and a number of other countries.

The project includes obtaining needed resources and installing digital terrestrial TV transmitting system and antennas.

Japanese embassy expressed hope the project will create a network where people living all over Maldives can share information, leading to economic and social progress.
