Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar has said that the international community has changed their old view on the status of the Maldives.
Minister Shareef made the remark talking to the press following the closing of the international seminar on anti-terrorism and extremism held at Kurumba Maldives.
After closing the two-day seminar, Minister Shareef said that the international view on the country, especially on things related to leading to terrorism and that no country in the world is completely safe from extremism and terrorism.
He said that the Maldives is also working against extremism and terrorism in way accepted by other counties. The result of that work is the priority to that work by the government according to the defence Minister.
A total of 13 countries took part in the seminar that started yesterday to acquire expertise to absolve terrorism and extremism from the Maldives with 58 personnel from institutes of the Maldives and abroad.
Local institutes that took part include MNDF, Police, Attorney General’s Office, Prosecutor General’s Office, Islamic Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Customs Service and Immigration.
The use of state authority, security measures and inter-agency collaboration were discussed at the seminar.
