State hospital, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), which had long been overrun by cats, is still struggling with the problem, months on.
The feline population has the run of the hospital which is visited by hundreds of patients each day, occupying chairs and even beds used by patients.
IGMH media official spoke to “Sun” this Monday and said that the hospital continued to receive complaints from patients over the cats. She said the hospital was working on providing a solution to the problem by sealing up gaps in the ceiling and other places, used by cats to get in and out of the hospital.
She said that the location of the hospital made it a challenge to solving the problem.
“Given that it’s an open place, we can only run after it as it makes its way in. We are addressing it as we see it. This is a huge problem to us as well,” said the media official.
She said that the staff of the hospital cleaned after the cats which climbed on chairs and patients’ beds.
IGMH is located in one end of Male’, which is home to a number of feral cats.
