Ruling over PPM appealed without Maumoon’s knowledge

Civil Court ruling ordering Advisor of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom – to take over running of the ruling party has been appealed in High Court by an individual, unknown to Leader Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his faction – which had been preparing their own appeal.

The ruling was appealed by an Abbas Wafir from Fen Fiyaz Villa in Hulhudhoo, Addu City.

He was not one of the individuals who lodged the original lawsuit with Civil Court, and it’s not clear on what grounds he is making the appeal on.

According to the summons sent by High Court to PPM informing them that the appeal had been accepted and the first hearing would be held this Wednesday, Abbas Wafir is the appellant and PPM is the appellee.

PPM’s Secretary-General appointed by Maumoon’s faction, Abdul Aleem said that PPM headquarters had not received a court summons. But that he had seen pictures of it circulating on social media.

Maumoon’s faction had been preparing to appeal the Civil Court ruling.
