Boat sinks after wrecking on reef

A cargo boat carrying construction material from Vilimale’ to Maniyafushi has sunk after wrecking on a reef.

The incident took place this Tuesday.

The two Maldivians and one expatriate worker on the boat “Randhi” have been rescued. And no one suffered any bodily harm in the incident.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) reported that the boat had wrecked on Enbooroo reef.

MNDF has asked people travelling in that area to be careful of floating cargo that would have been swept away in the ocean due to the incident.

MNDF also warned travelers to keep up with the latest weather updates, and be extra careful when loading cargo – given the bad weather conditions facing the country at the moment.
