People’s Majlis sitting for this Monday, October 17, has been concluded in a little over 9 minutes after it began.
The sitting began at 9 am, and ended at 9:09 am after the agenda was read.
Reading the agenda, Speaker of Majlis, Abdulla Maseeh said that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had asked approval for Hamdhoon Abdulla Hameed as the new Non-Residential Ambassador to Singapore, and Fathmath Inaya’s name had been sent to National Security Committee for review as the new Non-Residential Ambassador to Thailand.
The first reading of amendments to Employment Act and Tourism Act by K. Kaashidhoo MP Faisal Naseem was held, and then Speaker Maseeh announced the end of the sitting and scheduled the next sitting for Tuesday, October 18.
The hurried Majlis sitting comes at a time of great conflict within the ruling party, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) – with its members divided between its Leader, former Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
