Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that neither President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom nor PPM can win any election without the support from the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Talking on the recent internal turmoil within PPM on VTV’s “Fasmanzaru” program tonight, Umar said that if President Yameen wants the support of President Maumoon, he would have to return to the path of truth and establish a government free of corruption and in no other condition would attain the support of the former President.
Umar said that even now, if the President pauses on his journey and look back, he would see that he is alone. The former Home Minister said that no one with any political weight is behind President Yameen.
Noting that PPM can be taken, Umar said that even if it was taken, they would only get the “outer shell” of the party and highlighted the events which followed after DRP was taken from President Maumoon.
The former Home Minister said that the matters of the government have gone beyond the point of standing idle and noted the issue of selling of islands and lagoons without a bid process and the Anti-Defamation Law. Umar said that such actions are done outside the regulations accepted by PPM.
Umar said that President Maumoon cannot be dismissed from the leadership of the party and has quite a guarantee that they would win in the appeal phase. He said that the ruling today by the Civil Court has to be defined as a political ruling.
He said that as the Head of State, it is the responsibility of President Yameen to oversee the judiciary to see if they are progressing the right way. And at a government with Parliament majority, it should be done better.
Yumnaa Maumoon, who also went on the VTV program, asked why some were uneasy when President Maumoon established a reform agenda.
She said that the PPM Council meeting held tonight by President Yameen with his supporters was a meeting held against the PPM regulations.
The internal conflict within PPM has created two factions within the party. After the PPM President, Maumoon held a Council Meeting earlier today, President Yameen has held another Council Meeting with his supporters overruling some decisions made in the first meeting.
