Muizzu: Patriotic duty to elect Yameen for a second term

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has declared that it was a patriotic duty of evet Maldivian to elect President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom for a second term in office.

Muizzu made the remark during the TVM show “Rajje Miadhu” on Wednesday afternoon.

He said that he despaired for what would happen to the country if Yameen wasn’t elected for a second term.

“What he set out to do, is to solve all the issues facing the nation. Everything cannot be done within this five-year period,” he said.

Muizzu said that Yameen was capable of solving the economic crisis facing the nation. And that the positive outcome of his economic reforms during his tenure as President was visible.

He said that what Yameen set out to solve were issues that previous Maldivian presidents had refused to touch because it amounted to political suicide.

“These are major issues that have previously been left untouched due to political repercussions. He has taken a stand to solve these issues for the sake of the entire nation,” said Muizzu.

Minister Muizzu said that the expenditure by President Yameen was designed to profit the people of the country, either directly or indirectly.

Muizzu said that the national debt stood at USD 33 billion when Yameen took office.

He said that Yameen had implemented efficient measures to minimize the debt.

“He is enforcing a pretty effective economic reform agenda to cut unnecessary expenditure, and design necessary expenditure in a sustainable and goal-oriented fashion. As a result, the economy of the country is progressing year by year,” said Muizzu.

He said that Yameen would pay off a significant percentage of the national debt by the end of this term, and pay off the entire debt by the end of the second term.
