Water leaking into by the cargo boat “242” after it hit a reef on its way to H. A. Dhidhdhoo has been controlled, and all the cargo it was carrying have been saved.
The boat is from H. A. Ihavandhoo and hit the reef as it neared Dhidhdhoo, this Wednesday morning.
The boat’s captain, Ahmed Waheed spoke to “Sun” and said that the water leakage was now under control, and that all cargo had been unloaded from the boat without any damage.
Waheed said that the boat required massive repair work to fix extensive damage from the incident.
“It requires major repair. There’s massive damage to its belly,” said Waheed.
Dhidhdhoo councilman Ibrahim Waheed said that only the crew of the boat had been onboard when the incident took place. And that no one suffered any bodily harm.
The locals from Dhidhdhoo had worked fast to unload all the cargo as it started sinking.
