Largest opposition party, MDP has raised concerns over the suspension of lawyer Ahmed Nazim with allegations of creating hostility towards the Judicial System.
A statement issued by MDP today said that suspending an attorney while representing a person violates the rights of the person in detention and is against the law.
The party said that they are concerned if decisions are being made so that people are losing their freedom by being detained without their right to an attorney. And the statement advised not to violate the rights of the people as such not to take unjust decisions against lawyers.
MDP stated further that lawyer Nazim has been doing numerous works to get justice in civil and social cases along with the major crimes of the current government representing a number of people.
Lawyer Ahmed Nazim was suspended from all court proceedings until April 2017.
The suspension letter sent to Nazim signed by the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Abdul Baree Yousuf said that that Nazim has tried to smear the judges and the court on numerous occasions.
And said that Nazim was advised to put an end to such actions on multiple occasions to no avail and repeated behavior.
The letter said that lawyer Nazim’s actions were outside the code of conduct of attorneys.
