Sri Lankan Airlines is prepping up to resume flights between Gan International Airport in Addu City and Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
“Sun” has been informed that Sri Lankan is making all necessary arrangements to resume flights between Gan and Colombo, and that the airline has scheduled the flights and is ready to sell the tickets on the go.
The airline is currently waiting on the necessary permits from Maldivian government and Civil Aviation Authority.
Managing Director of Ace Aviation – the Maldivian sales agent of Sri Lankan Airlines – Mohamed Firaq said that the airline was ready to resume flights as soon as it received the necessary permits.
Firaq said that Sri Lankan Airlines and Addu International Airport Limited – which runs Gan International Airport – would make an official announcement very soon.
General Manager of Addu International Airport Limited, Ibthishama Ahmed Saeed said that they had joined discussions regarding the resumption of flights between Gan and Colombo, but that no official agreement had been made yet.
“Discussions between Sri Lankan Airlines and Addu International Airport Limited were successful. But we haven’t signed any official agreement yet. So I can’t say when the flights will resume,” said Ibthishama.
Ibthishama said that resumption of flights between Colombo and Gan would increase the number of tourist arrivals and increase job opportunities for people living in Addu City.
She also said that the resumption of flights would result in an influx of US Dollars into the country, which would be beneficial to businesses and the whole economy.
