Cargo boat en route to Male’ wrecks on reef, sinking

The boat “Ummeedh” carrying cargo from A. A. Thoddoo to Male’ has wrecked on a reef and has started sinking to the bottom of the ocean along with the cargo its carrying.

The boat wrecked on a reef near K. Kodhipparu this Wednesday morning.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) reported that a team from Coastguard was working with the owner of the boat to rescue the boat.

The 80-foot cargo boat was carrying 13 people onboard it when it crashed into the reef.

There are no reports of any injuries.
