Stakeholders discuss development in Tourism Forum

Ministry of Tourism – along with other Maldivian tourism industry stakeholders have started discussions on development of the industry in the Tourism Forum held in Dharubaaruge, on occasion of World Tourism Day – celebrated annually across the globe on September 27.

The forum – an initiative of the Maldivian government – was inaugurated by Minister of Tourism Moosa Zameer this Tuesday morning.

Tourism industry stakeholders including heads of Maldivian resorts and hotels, government offices and organizations are participating in the discussions.

Minister Moosa Zameer said in his opening speech that discussions would center on three main topics; Environment and Youth, Human Resource Development, and Aviation.

Marketing strategies for the upcoming year is to be discussed and formulated during the forum, and an additional meeting which will be held on Wednesday, September 28.

Zameer said in his speech that the tourism industry of the Maldives was thriving beyond expectation, and more luxury resorts would be built within the next five years – bringing along with it, renowned international brands.

“We want to ensure that potential future employees of such resorts are fully trained by the time the resorts are opened. Specialized training programs for tourism industry are being conducted in collaboration with TVET [Technical Vocational Education and Training] and Education Ministry,” said Zameer.

Tourists arriving at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport are being treated to a special welcome as part of World Tourism Day celebrations.
