New seaplane and airbus to be brought in by National Airline

National Airline of the Maldives, Maldivian, has decided to bring a new seaplane for domestic travels and an A321 Airbus for international travels.

Head of Administration at Island Aviation Service, Ali Nashaath Hameed told Sun Media today that they have made the announcement to acquire a DHC-6 Twin Otter for their seaplane fleet and to rent an A321 Airbus.

An announcement made by Maldivian said that they wish to rent the Airbus for six to eight years. The A321 Airbus has a passenger capacity of 200.

The national airline already has an A321 airplane and an A320 airplane used in international travels. International destinations by Maldivian include Chinese destinations of Xian, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chongqing, Chengdu and Changsha.

Maldivian also has flights between Bangkok, Chennai, Trivandrum and Dhaka.

The Twin Otter plane sought by Maldivian would have floats installed and be used as seaplane. Currently, the National Airline has eight DHC-6 Twin Otter seaplanes in their fleet including a luxury seaplane.
