Commissioner of Sports, Ahmed Nasheed (Dave) has said that the Al-Jazeera documentary “Stealing Paradise” would negatively affect the Maldives and the Maldivian sports sector would be “slaughtered”.
In an interview with Sun Media today, Dave said that the documentary labeled the Sports Commissioner as a gangster and such a branding would “slaughter” the sports industry of the country.
“Al-Jazeera documentary has labeled the Maldivian Sports Commissioner as a gangster. In the future, when we meet heads of foreign countries they would say “your sports commissioner is a big gangster Al-Jazeera has said.” How much of a damage is that?” Dave said.
He said that if the Sports Commissioner is a gangster, there must be a criminal record but he does not have a criminal record and it proves that the weakness of those that provided the information to the producer of the documentary Will Jordan.
According to Dave, he was labeled as a gangster in retaliation for testifying against the former Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor.
The Commissioner of Sports said that he would not accept a documentary made by a former Editor of Minivan News with interviews from MDP activists and people who have Interpol Red Notice against them.
