Minister of Home Affairs, Ahmed Azleen has hinted legal action against anyone who provided false information for the Al-Jazeera documentary on alleged corruption within the current Maldivian government.
Speaking during the press conference held at President’s Office on behalf of Social Council this Sunday afternoon, Home Minister Azleen said that the Maldivian government would not provide anyone any opportunity to spread false information regarding the country.
Azleen said that any talk designed to attack an Islamic community and discredit it was simply not right.
He said that the authorities would take legal action against anyone who is seen to provide false information regarding the country in any trailer shown by the international media – indicating the trailer for Al-Jazeera documentary “Stealing Paradise” which is being shared across the social media.
The documentary is set to be released this Sunday evening.
Azleen advised the opposition to stop fear mongering if they want to gain the love of the Maldivian people.
“We will not provide anyone any opportunity to make such trailers and spread such false information,” said Azleen.
Those who provided information for the Al-Jazeera documentary includes the former Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed, former Vice President and Leader of Maldives United Opposition Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and former Auditor General Niyaz Ibrahim.
