Three of the 21-year-old Izuham Mohamed’s friends who travelled to Sri Lanka along with him, in the trip that spelled his death after being crushed under a train last Saturday, have been asked to provide their statements regarding the incident to the Sri Lankan court.
The 21-year-old Sharia and Law major from Maldives National University was in his last semester of studies when he travelled to Sri Lanka along with three of his friends for the weekend on last Thursday.
One of his three friends spoke to “Sun” on Saturday and said that they had been asked to provide their statements to Sri Lankan court on September 19, and had therefore been asked to be present in Sri Lanka on that day.
The Sri Lankan police have already taken their statements for the investigation.
Izuhan was crushed under the train in front of Ocean Colombo located in Bambalapitiya neighborhood of Colombo.
He had been out on Saturday morning with one of his friends who travelled to Lanka with him when the incident took place.
Izuhan’s friend had been distracted taking to an acquaintance from back home who he met there when a Sri Lankan man came and told him that Izuhan had been caught underneath a train trying to cross the tracks.
Izuhan, head swollen and distorted with limbs broken and positioned awkwardly, had only been recognizable through the clothes he had been wearing; his watch frozen at 9:25 am, what is believed to be the time of impact.
Samples have been taken from his body and tests have been done to investigate his death.
His body was buried in Sri Lanka, Saturday night.
