PPM: Minister Shainee’s words regarding Dunya are false

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that the Fisheries Minister, Dr. Mohamed Shainee’s words on the media last night regarding the former Foreign Minister, Dunya Maumoon are false.

A statement issued by PPM said that the Fisheries Minister intended to smear the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and his family and PPM strongly condemns the minister’s words.

Responding to a question on Sangu TV’s “Khabarah Fahu” (After News) program last night, Dr. Shainee said that Dunya Maumoon, a daughter of President Maumoon, was a failure as the Foreign Minsiter. The Fisheries Minister also responded to a tweet from Dunya on the program.

The former Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon, who resigned in early July, tweeted on Tuesday saying that the change that people wishes are important to reach new heights and the future the country wants.

When the reporter said that Dunya used phrases used during the previous government’s campaign days and the former President Maumoon and his family has been criticizing the government, Dr. Shainee said that things said in 2008 are failed things.

And if Dunya is talking about those things, her side has failed and she is a failed person.

The statement from PPM yesterday said that the while it is clear to the people why Dunya Maumoon resigned from her position as the Foreign Minister, saying such harsh things is an attempt to create friction between the members of PPM and the former President Maumoon and his family.

PPM also responded some of the accusations made by some others regarding President Maumoon and called to those that are spreading the rumors to speak more responsibly.
