Met Office warns possibility of tidal waves to some islands

National Meteorological Service has warned of the possibility of some Maldivian islands being effected by tidal waves during high tide, with the bad weather conditions facing the country.

Met Office forecasts widespread rain with isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms over the country for the next 24 hours starting from 10 am, this Monday.

Surface winds are expected to vary between south-west to westerly between 10 to 20 miles per hour in southern atolls and west to north-westerly at 15 to 25 miles per hour elsewhere.

Winds may gust 45 to 50 miles per hour during showers.

Met Office also said that seas are expected to be generally rough throughout the country with tidal waves expected in some islands during high tide.

People using sea transportation have been advised to take precautions against rough seas and strong winds, and to keep a close eye on the weather forecast.
