Maseeh: President Yameen will complete the five-year term

President of the Parliament, Abdulla Maseeh has said that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will complete the five-year term of his Presidency.

Speaking at a PPM function tonight at Gnaviyani Atoll Fuvahmulah, Maseeh said that the government is being run free of foreign influence and directly in service of the Maldivian people. He said that the government of President Yameen was elected by the people and so his government would serve the people.

While the President of the Parliament has said this, BBC has reported of plans to topple President Yameen’s government next week. And Al-Jazeera has announced a video report release exposing alleged corruption of the government.

The Defense Minister, Adam Shareef also spoke at the function tonight saying that a government can be changed by the people going out and taking a vote. To change the government any other way, the Minister said, was to carry out a coup d'etat and the Maldivian people would not allow for that.

Minister Adam Shareef said that the Maldivian people know what follows a coup in other countries such as the problems and the challenges they face. And have seen how a country destroys itself. For all these reasons, the Minister said that the people of the country have to say no to a coup.

He said that all the institutes of the country today has been linked an so the current government would not allow a change of government through military force.
