President congratulates the new Prime Minister of Nepal

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a congratulatory message to the New Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, following his victory in the election last week.

In his message, the President said that he is looking forward to working with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal to further strengthen the close and friendly relations between Nepal and the Maldives.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal was elected as Prime Minister after the Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli resigned after an impeachment vote was attempted against him.

Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre) chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist-Centre), Pushpa Kamal, has previously served as the Prime Minister of Nepal from August 2008 to May 2009 as the second Prime Minister in the Presidency of Ram Baran Yadav.

In 2009, Pushpa Kamal resigned from the position after President Ram Baran Yadav dismissed the then Chief of Nepalese Army.

From 1996 to 2006, Pushpa Kamal Dahal led the Maoist-Centre’s military rebellion against the multi-party monarch in Nepal. Over 17,000 people were killed in the 10-year conflict.
