Maldives Police Service has started providing security to the former Home Minister, Umaru Naseer, who has announced his candidacy for the Presidential Election, after he received a death threat last night by three people near his office at H. Sakeena Manzil.
Umaru said that he requested security about a month ago and the Police have assigned a security detail today.
He told Sun Media today thathe requested security after threats from gangs that he would be attacked and killed with knives. The former Home Minister was threatened by a group of three armed with knives last night. Umarau said that they were in the area throughout the day surveilling for him.
The former Home Minister said that all three were under the influence when they threatened him and it has been reported to the Police.
