Parents of Dh. Bandidhoo have expressed concern after 13 of the total 27 teachers at Bandidhoo School failed to show up for class on Sunday.
“Sun” has been informed that the teachers failed to show up for classes as they were required to travel to the capital – Male’ – each weekend to study for a course being conducted block-mode.
Principal of Bandidhoo School, Adam Saeed spoke to “Sun” on Sunday and said that the 13 teachers were absent because 11 of the teachers were in Male’ for the course, and two teachers were on sick leave.
Saeed said that classes were being conducted at the school regardless of the shortage using reserve teachers.
He said that he had requested with both the teachers and Ministry of Education to make the arrangements so that it does not have any negative impact on the students.
“The 3,000 teacher program by the government – we requested the teachers to join that, so they don’t have to travel out of the island. They can get their education here,” said Saeed.
He said that the teachers had agreed to hold the replacement classes on Saturday, but that it was not the most convenient for the students.
Saeed said that he will request with Ministry of Education to make a more constructive arrangement.
