CP vows harshest punishment for slightest harm to any officer

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Areef has vowed the harshest punishment allowed by law to anyone who causes the slightest harm to a police officer.

Speaking during Police Memorial Day celebration at Iskandhar Koshi on Saturday night, CP Areef said that many police officers had sacrificed their lives for the country, and he would therefore not tolerate any act to obstruct police officers from carrying out their duty, verbal attacks against officers or anything that may cause an officer the slightest harm.

“I declare that I will not hesitate to execute the harshest punishment allowed by law against anyone who commits such an act,” said Areef.

He said that the same way police officers protected law abiding citizens; no one should obstruct any officer performing his duty.

He said that the police force would overcome any and every act of obstruction.

The CP also vowed to make smooth welfare arrangements for officers injured or disabled during the line of duty, as well as welfare arrangements to the families of police officers who give their lives in the line of duty.

He said that reality and rumors were different, and questioned whether there was anyone with empathetic towards a police officer who is injured, or gives his or her life during the line of duty.

“Maldivian police officers work within the boundaries of law. Every police officer can be confident about his or her work. God willing, every police officer will receive the honor and reward for performing their patriotic and legal duty,” said Areef.
