The decision has been made to allow for Malaysians traveling to Maldives on holiday or other such needs to be issued a 90-day visa upon arrival.
It has already been decided to allow Maldivians who travel to Malaysia on holiday to be also allowed 90-day visa upon arrival.
The change was made after discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, during Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen’s state visit to Malaysia from March 28-30, this year.
“The discussion was made Malaysia is a place Maldivians travel to for different purposes very frequently. And because of complaints received of difficulties faced due to the few number of days allowed in the visa,” said Immigration.
Immigration said that however, visa would not be extended for people’s whose stay extends beyond 90 days.
Immigration said that it would prevent Maldivians from travelling out of Malaysia to Singapore and then back again to Malaysia to renew their visas – to extend their stay in Malaysia.
The Service said that the change would help get rid of inconveniences faced by Maldivians who travel to Malaysia, and pave the way for more such conveniences to both Maldivians and Malaysians who travel between the two countries.
