Judge Baaree decides only he can preside over remand hearings

Chief Judge of Criminal Court, Judge Abdul Baaree Yoosuf has made the decision that only he can preside over remand hearings for suspects held at Criminal Court.

“Sun” has been informed that the decision has been in effect for a week.

Criminal Court Information Officer Ahmed Mohamed Manik spoke to “Sun” on Tuesday, and said that it was under the authority of the Chief Judge of Criminal Court to decide who will preside over remand hearings.

He said that it had always been that way.

Remand hearings had previously been carried based on a schedule, in which different judges will preside over remand hearings on different days.
