Maldives, Germany discuss expanding investment

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and German Ambassador to Maldives and Sri Lanka, Dr. Jürgen Morhard have discussed expanding investment in Maldives by Germany.

The discussion was held during Morhard’s farewell call to President Yameen on Monday.

President Yameen expressed gratitude to assistance provided by Germany especially in tourism and infrastructure development, as well as environmental protection.

Both President Yameen and Morhard noted that this year would mark 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Maldives and Germany, and discussed ways of further enhancing the ties.

They noted the importance of attracting more German investors to Maldives – especially in tourism.

President’s Office reported that President Yameen had briefed Morhard about policies and measures being taken by Maldivian government to create a more investor-friendly environment in Maldives.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed were in attendance during the call.
