Police bring in MDP Deputy Leader Shifaz for questioning

Police have brought in Deputy Leader of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Mohamed Shifaz to police headquarters.

Deputy Chairperson of MDP, Ali Niyaaz informed “Sun” that Shifaz was transported to police headquarters in a vehicle after he left his home on Monday night to join the rally to celebrate MDP’s 11th anniversary.

Niyaaz said that police did not need to bring in Shifaz for questioning regarding the rally as they had informed police that MDP Secretary-General Anas Abdul Sattar would be the one to speak to police regarding the rally on behalf of the party.

Police Information Officer Ismail Ali said that Shifaz had been brought in for questioning to clarify some information.

“Shifaz was brought in to clear some information. He wasn’t arrested,” said Ismail.
