18 people have tested positive in H. A. Ihavandhoo – less than 2 weeks into the month of July.
Senior Administrator of Ihavandhoo Health Center, Shahuma Moosa spoke to “Sun” on Monday and said that total 60 people had been brought into the health center with dengue fever from
April – which included 15 children below the age of 5, and 45 individuals above the age of 5.
Shahuma said that the most number of dengue patients had come in during Ramdan.
She said that the heath center had filled to capacity, and some patients had to be transferred to H. A. Atoll Hospital and H. Dh. Kulhuduffushi Regional Hospital for treatment.
“I want to it to be known that we are providing information to the people at health center level by running door-to-door awareness programs and information sessions,” said Shahuma.
She said that all authorities in Ihavandhoo were collaborating and running programs to clean the island and destroy mosquito breeding grounds. And that the hath center and police had run a week-long program to fog the island to kill mosquitos.
