The deadline to apply for Disability Award – handed out in recognition of efforts to assist and empower people with disabilities – has been extended.
The deadline, which was originally set for June 30 has been extended to end of July.
Ministry of Gender and Family announced through Government Gazette last Saturday that people can apply for the award themselves or nominate someone else for the award.
Marks will be given in accordance with preset standards by Ministry of Gender and Family, and the council for protection of people with disabilities.
Those who apply for the award or are nominated will be interviewed, and the winners selected by a special committee set up for the purpose.
Disability Award will be handed out in 9 categories.
They are:
• Remarkable individuals with disabilities (5)
• Individuals with disabilities who perform well, internationally
• Individuals that provide education to people with disabilities (2)
• An ordinary civilian who assists individuals with disabilities (2)
• A non-profit organization that works for betterment of people with disabilities (1)
• Professionals assisting people with disabilities (2)
• People who provide material and financial assistance to people with disabilities (1)
• People who provide employment to people with disabilities (1)
• Media station working for betterment of people with disabilities (1)
Disability Award was last handed out in 2014.
