Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that the bridge being built between Male’ and Hulhule’ was going ahead on schedule, and that reports of delays in the project were baseless.
He made the statement in a tweet sent out via his official Twitter account on Sunday night.
He also said in his tweet that the bridge was expected to be unveiled on July 26, 2018 – Independence Day.

Muizzu said in earlier statements that the bridge was scheduled to be unveiled on July 26, 2018 – and that it would be unveiled and made operational by August or September at the latest.
The USD 200 million project is assigned to Chinese company – CCCC.
Half of the project is funded through non-reimbursable financial aid by Chinese government.
The bridge will be 1.39 kilometers long and 20 meters wide with separate lanes for four-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians.
Work on building the temporary landing bridge is currently under way in full speed.
The bridge is to be named China-Maldives Friendship Bridge.
