A small child has died from dengue fever today while undergoing treatement at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). The child was 12-year-old Mohamed Zain Hameed from Laamu atoll Isdhoo.
Vice President of the Isdhoo Island Council, Mohamed Luthufee told Sun Media that Zain died this morning around 11 a.m.
The 12-year-old was brought to Malé City three days ago after treatment at Gan before his initial treatment at the Isdhoo Health Post.
Councilman Latheef said that dengue is rapidly spreading in Isdhoo and it is mostly children under 12 years of age. He said that the island is in serious condition.
“Even right now there are four children at the Isdhoo Health Post. At Gan as well.” Vice President of the Isdhoo Island Council, Mohamed Luthufee said.
He said that it is a rainy season at the island and today they cancelled a scheduled cleaning of the island due to the heavy rain.
Latheef said that a lot of work is being done to stop the spreading of dengue fever in the island.
While a 12-year-old has died due to dengue fever, last month, the Health Ministry said that the number reported cases of mosquito related diseases are going down.
