Visitor’s center to be built in “Eydhigali Kilhi”

Ministry of Environment has hired Wee Hour Investment Private Limited to build a visitor’s center in “Eydhigali Kilhi” – a protected swamp area located in Hithadhoo, Addu.

The agreement was signed in a ceremony held at Ministry of Environment on Monday morning.

It was signed on behalf on Wee Hour Investment by Managing Director of the company, Hamdhoon Anees; and on behalf of the government by Minster of Environment and Energy, Thoriq Ibrahim.

Wee Hour Investment is required to complete the MVR 8.2 million project within 8 months.

Ministry of Environment said the work was funded by Climate Change Adaptation Project (CCAP).

Speaking during the ceremony, Minister Thoriq said that the visitor’s center would be built using material that are eco-friendly.

“Eydhigali Kilhi has been protected for a long time. We are doing what we can to ensure that citizens and the government gain the benefit that can be taken from the place. After the visitor’s center is built, we will establish a system to run the place in the future, and established a way to properly maintain the place,” said Thoriq.
