Former Home Minister, Umar Naseer has been dismissed from the Advisory Committee for the President of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
A statement issued by PPM tonight said that Maumoon dismissed Umar from the Committee from the moment he decided to run for President in the 2018 election.
Umar told Sun Media that making the decision to take part in the PPM Primaries for the election while he is on the Advisory Committee does not create a conflict of interest. He said that Maumoon made the decision after discussing it with him and fully supports his decision.
The former Home Minister declared his intention earlier today to run for President in the 2018 Election.
He said that he would work to get elected through PPM and would join the race if a Primary opens up. And if he loses in the Primaries, he would not run for President.
Umar said that if he does not get the chance to run in the Primaries, he would run for President as an independent candidate.
