Spokesperson of Maldives United Opposition (MUO), South Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has said that the opposition alliance – MUO would be representing the opposition during all-party talks hereafter.
Mahloof said during a press conference held at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) office building on Tuesday that, MUO would be representing the opposition during the all-party talks by government hereafter. And that a wide range of topics would be covered during the talks.
He said that it would be discussed to provide the opportunity for a candidate selected by each opposition party to compete in Presidential Elections 2018, reform the judiciary, reform Elections Commission, and ensure a free and fair election.
“If we participate in all-party talks with opposition by the government, we will be represented by MUO. We will participate and discuss about the institution that needs the most reform in the country – the courts, about making Elections commission free and fair and providing the opportunity for a candidate from each party to compete in the upcoming presidential election,” said Mahloof.
The decision comes after a delegation from United Nations arrived in the country recently to mediate the talks.
