Man arrested and remanded after trying to board Hulhumalé ferry with a knife

On the night of 14 June, the same day a young man was stabbed in the head and injured on Janavaree Magu, a man who tried to come to Malé City from Hulhumalé to attack someone was arrested.

Police Media Official confirmed that they arrested a 19-year-old and has had his remand extended by ten days.

Sources say that the man was arrested at the ferry terminal in Hulhumalé in a special operation conducted by the Police on Tuesday night.

The man who was arrested is suspected of trying to come to Malé to attack someone. A knife was found in his shorts during a search that was conducted.

The man injured in the attack near Sangu TV station on Janavaree Magu in now in better condition.

Violent crime with sharp objects has been on the rise in the recent weeks. Two 14-year-olds were killed in two separate attacks in less than 24 hours on 3 June.
