Police start looking for Jameel, Akram, but unable to serve papers

Police have started looking for former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel and Chairman of RajjeTV Akram Kamaalluddin for their suspected involvement in attempting to obtain an arrest warrant for President Abdulla Yameen.

Police Information Officer Ismail Ali spoke to “Sun” on Sunday, and said that Jameel and Akram were being looked for in relation to some cases being investigated, but that police had so far failed to serve them the papers summoning them to the police station for questioning.

“We tried to serve them papers summoning them. But we have not been able to serve them the papers yet,” said Ismail.

Both Jameel and Akram are currently in London.

Ismail said that they are suspected of involvement in other cases in addition to the attempt to arrest the President.

He asked them to present themselves at police station for questioning.

Two anonymous witnesses who testified at court in the case of the attempted arrest of President said that Jameel was the mastermind behind the attempt.

One of the witnesses said that Akram, who is the former State Minister of Ministry of Home Affairs, was also involved in the attempt.

Chief Magistrate of A. Dh. Maamingili Court, Ahmed Nihan and former Prosecutor General Muhuthaz Muhsin have been sentenced to 17 years in prison a-piece in the case.
