Met Office warns of rough seas in northern and central regions

National Meteorological Center has forecasted rough seas in northern and central regions with the Hulhangu (south-west) Monsoon being experienced in the country, resulting in possible disruptions to travel.

The Center’s Director, Ahmed Rasheed said on Sunday that winds with the speed of 13 – 23 mph had been forecasted in northern and central parts of Maldives up until Wednesday, leading to rough seas.

“There may be rain from time to time. But it looks more likely that the seas will be rough, causing disruptions to transport,” said Ahmed.

He said that favorable weather conditions were forecasted for southern parts of the country.

National Meteorological Center advices people involved in sea transport to consider rough weather conditions before embarking upon journeys.

Multiple marine accidents have already taken place this year resulting in damage to various individuals.

A boat overloaded with construction material travelling from Male’ to V. Atoll recently broke in half and sank into the bottom of the ocean, along with all the cargo onboard.
