People’s Majlis, on Monday, accepted the bill to amend Civil Service Act so that minister’s will have a say when Civil Service Commission appoints permanent secretaries for their respective ministries.
The bill, put forward by Dhiddhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed, was accepted into the Majlis with vote of 32 members.
18 members voted to reject the bill.
The bill has now been sent to Independent Institution Committee for evaluation.
Civil Service Act says that permanent secretaries are to be appointed by Civil Service Commission.
The bill also calls for law to be amended so that permanent secretaries provide their advice only when asked for by the ministers.
MP Latheef said that services by government to its citizens can only be perfected by increasing efficiency and effectiveness of all state institutions.
