Bank of Maldives (BML) has said that the number of transactions from their ATMs has doubled in the first week of Ramadan.
Media official of the bank told Sun Media today that 200,000 transactions were made from the BML ATMs last week and said that it was almost double compared to the weeks of other months.
With the increased amount of money being withdrawn from the bank, the BML Media Official said that with they have decided to keep the opening hours of their main branch from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
When asked why so many ATMs are out of service while a large number of people are on queue for the service, the BML official said that the bank has been maintaining at least 95 percent of their ATM service at all times.
BML has 76 ATMs currently in use with over 40 of those in the Malé area.
Expenses are unusually high in the Maldives during the month of Ramadan.
